To find a topic of interest to you, consult:

  • Textbook
  • Classmates
  • Professor

Make sure your topic falls within the historical timeframe of the course.

  • HIS 101: ancient history to 1715
    • Sample topic: Thomas Aquinas and Scholasticism
  • HIS 102: 1715 to present
    • Sample topic: The Greek Resistance and WWII Italy
  • HIS 201: 1400s to 1865
    • Sample topic: The Panic of 1819
  • HIS 202: 1877 to present
    • Sample topic: Susan B. Anthony and the Women’s Suffrage Movement

To focus your topic:

  1. Start by entering broad search terms (example: “Persian Wars”)
  2. Scan the results to see what historians are writing about.
  3. Narrow your topic as you discover items of interest (example: “Xerxes and the Battle of Thermopylae”).
